School
We have decided to do an experiment with Jacob this year. We are home schooling him even though this state does not require that he start school until next year. I suppose you shouldn't do experiments with your children's education, but we decided that was what is right for us. We have already been working with him to teach him the basics and prepare him for school, but actually being his teacher is a very different story. This year is to see if I am capable of being his teacher. A whole lot of work goes into home schooling a child and not everyone should home school their kids. Even if this works out, Elizabeth may need to go to regular school. It all depends on the child and how they work with this. There is also the concern of socialization. Truthfully, Jacob doesn't get enough of that as is. He does have two friends who live next door, but Jason and I are more strict on bedtimes and not allowing them to play outside when we are not out their with them, so that often makes it difficult for them to play together. Starting Wednesday, Jacob will have a class at the zoo where he will be with other home schooled kids his age so hopefully that will help. Also, part of the deal is that before he would start school if in regular school, he has to also be in some other form of activity, like Karate. To afford this we are considering me getting a job at night, because that stuff is ridiculously expensive.
I know this probably seems silly, but we have put a lot into setting up a classroom. We want it to be like school only with more attention. All of the things in the classroom were gotten over time, and many were taken from the kids bedroom, but I think it worked out very nice. Jason lost his exercise room, all his equipment has been moved to the basement and a little area set up for him there. I would say we lost our exercise room, but apparently there is some rule about having to actually use the equipment in order to claim ownership.
My father's father made this book shelf for him when he was a kid. It was passed down to me as I grew up and has been reincarnated in many colors. I think he would be proud to know that it is now being used by his great grandchildren. He made a matching one for my uncle but I doubt it is still in circulation.
